Hi, my name is Hannah and welcome to my blog ‘Tales of a Gaijin’. I started this blog several years ago to share the experiences of my first exchange to Japan and now I’m heading back again. My days of being an exchange student are over (silent tear). This time I am taking on Japan and the big scary ‘real world’. I hope you will join me, whether again or for the first time, as I experience Japan as an employee of a Japanese company (and of course, as a gaijin^^).

WELCOME HOME HANNAH!!!! Looks like you had some fun filled last days. Those kimono's were so pretty!! You should've brought the japanese cat home with you and I'd want the yellow phone too, just cause it's yellow!!! Well, can't wait to see you!!!

Sounds like a lot of fun there. Really interesting, anyway. I've always wanted to go to Japan. Especially as a foreign exchange student, to see what school and stuff was like.

Haha, rush of Nick News comments! I just saw you too.
Very nice blog =)
Heh. I saw you on Nick News as well. How'd you get to go to Japan for 10 months? I've always wanted to go to Japan, it seems like a really great place. I'm also jealous that you've beaten Kingdom Hearts 2 before I even played it! It's not even out yet...
Well, anyway, if you could email me your response, quily2002@aol.com
PS... I plan on studying the Japanese language next year, how difficult is it? How much do you need to know to get by in Japan?

Hi Hannah! I'm Raquel and I just saw you on Nick News. Heh, seems like everyone else has too. You certainly got popular after that! I just felt like saying hi, and that I love Japan! I've never been there, but I seem to love everything that's from there. I watch a lot of anime and read manga and listen to way too much J-Pop. My friends make fun of me for that last one. Hehe. Anyways, I guess you're already home from Japan (if I read your info correctly) so I'm glad you had so much fun in Japan. If you ever want to talk, you can always check out my livejournal. See ya!
Like other people I saw you on Nick News, and googled the name of your blog.

It's funny how television brings people together. :)
nick news you and japan are gnarly.
Holy Guecemole (sp? O_o)! I too, have just seen you on Nick News and I must say, I'm thoroughly jealous. ^.^ I've been trying to get into a Japanese Language immersion program for the last YEAR and my, it's hard! Sooo much money goes into those programs. I would absolutely LOVE to do a program like yours but the whole language barrier thing is a major obstacle! I've found great programs though, don't get me wrong! Places like AYUSA and AFS seem glad to take my hard earned, not quite exsistent money! Anyway, thanks for the great blob. It's given me some much needed insight on what it might be like to travel as an otaku to Japan. (hehehe) I'll stop pawing at you and your totally awesome experience and say bye!
~Steffie-chan!
(P.S. What anime did they show on the Nick News segment?!? O_o Whatever it was, I'm sure I've never seen it! T.T)
Hey there. Just like the other bazillion people who have commented, I saw you on Nick as well. I was wondering if you might be intrested in talking with me, well.... because I would love to hear every little detail of what you have done. I would love to go to Japan. I love anime, and manga, and Japanese culture. Theres a littttle chance you might see this, but I would love to talk to you. You seem like such a cool person, and I would love it if you were able to give me some advice on my trip to Japan. ^-^

Hello! I, too, found you on Nick. You were the best of the gaijins! XD I'm really envious of your experience in Japan because I haven't been there yet (I'm 19, so it's kinda late to experience High School there) I know you have a lot of comments to get back to but I was wondering if you were into any japanese bands? As for me, I'm a HUGE L'Arc~en~Ciel fan~

Konnichiwa, I just saw you on Nickelodeon, in the U.S.! Just to point out, its Tokyo-to [東京都], and not Tokyo-ken.
I am also a Japanese person, lived in Japan, and move into the U.S. 8 years ago, and I find it interesting how American people react to Japanese things.
Whoa, just noticed so many people saw you on Nick News!
Kore kara mo gambatte kudasai!
こんいちわ〜げんき です か?Hi, I posted in the wrong blog post. I saw you on tv~ Lol, you have a lot of comments~ anyhow, just saying this again so you might see it this time- I think it's so cool that you get to live in Japan. I plan on going there some day. Ummm hi. I saw you on nick news and I got curious. I wanted to find out more about your time in Japan so I looked up your blog.I myself have been very interested in Japan for a while now,and I was hoping ot find a blog like yours around here one day. Japan is the best place ever! Well at least in my opinon.
I'm a middle schooler and i'm pretty sure my school and my soon to be high school don't have any programs that allow students to go to Japan. They may have a forein extange program but I'm not sure. I would love to go to Japan, after I work on learning the basics first.
Okay i'm ramling once again(-sigh-),so i'll cut to the chase.
I was wondering if you wanted to be stora my penpal or something, and we could talk about japan and stuff. You don't have to though,I won't mind.If you do,my email adress is Vixen_Kitsune_Demon@Yahoo.com,so yeah.

Wow, nice blog! I don't know much Japanese. The most useful phrase I know is wakarimasen.
This is Tucker again from before. After seeing your spot on Nick News I went to your blog. NOW, I am reading your entire blog (I'm up to June 05)and eventually I ended up on the Student Exchange program website. I am SERIOUSLY considering going there in the near future, I think it'd be a great experience.... If you could, please share all thoughts, my AIM is Quily2002, and my email is quily2002@aol.com, I know very original names :P. I'd like to know all about your experience, because I'd need to know all I can before making a decision to go to Japan for a year. Thank you for your time!
Wow! I thought I was unique. My sister is fascinated with Japan. It's borderline obsession! When I saw the commercial for the special, I knew she should check it out. I ended up watching it with her and saw you! So I searched your blog today, and wow. I love your stories, and I can't beileve you're already back in the states. But I guess that's how it goes with television productions, huh? I'd like to know how you're doing now that you're back in America. It must have been so sad to leave, but I thought that'd be cool. So should you find the time, update a bit! :D Bet you've got a new appreciation for janitors, eh? Haha, well should you read this comment among the others, I enjoyed reading your blog. Must have been a nice break :)

Hello. I know its been several months since you have been back (according to your blog), but I figured that I would leave a comment in case you still read this. I saw your spot on Nick News like everyone else here, and thought that I would check it out. I spent 3 years myself in Japan so I understand a lot of what you went through. I know you have a lot of pen pal requests here, but if you'd like to talk more about Japan, feel free to drop me a line.

o.o" Wow. I did take a long time to search your blog. Yes I admit like all the others I saw about you on Nick News. Hehe. Well anyways you are so lucky that you got to go to Japan for about a year right? Wow. I might go this summer w/ my school because I go to a Japanese language school. I just started going a couple weeks ago and I thought it wasn't so tough w/ the hiragana and katakana but when we got to the Kanji -__-" I was wrong. Kanji.. is... hard.. You probably already know this but yeah. Sorry my comment is so long just I read all your posts and they are really interesting. Alright Saiyonara!

._. this girl forgot her blog XD
I watched Linda Ellerbee this morning and as a result, I read through your blog.
It was years ago, and under much different circumstances that I visited Japan, Okinawa, and the inevitable tour in Vietnam.
I find now that I hold those memories closer as I've aged and wish at times that I could return to present day Japan.
I hope your time spent there will reside in your memories for such a period......you seem to have a great perspective and I would imagine your family is directly responsible for that. I was impressed.
Take care and have a most wonderful rest of your life.
